지난 2017년 10월 16일부터 10월 21일까지 동대문디자인플라자앤파크 ^{Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park}에서 2018년도 봄/여름 시즌 헤라 서울패션위크 ^{Hera Seoul Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018}가 열렸습니다. 더 네이비 매거진 ^{The NAVY Magazine}은 매일 한 브랜드씩, 총 열두 개의 컬렉션 비평 ^critic을 한국어와 영어로 전합니다.

2018년 봄과 여름, 키미제이 Kimmy.J는 작가적 상상과 과학적 사실이 중첩한 세계관을 만들었다. 태양계에서 39.13광년 거리에 있는 초저온 왜성 ‘트라피스트-1 ^Trappist-1’이 그 무대이다. 과학자들이 명명한 ‘Trappist’는 기도와 침묵을 강조하는 엄격한 수도회 규율을 뜻한다. 가본 적 없는 미지의 적색 행성을, 키미제이는 신비로운 명상의 시공간으로 재해석했다.

설립 초기 고딕 ^gothic 스타일과 펑크 록 ^{Punk rock}, 음울한 정서를 반영한 김희진 ^{Kim Heejin}은 뉴욕패션위크 무대에 오른 이래 유니섹스 레이블로 영역을 넓히며 진화하고 있다. 가상의 밴드 아트워크를 붙인 바람막이^windbreaker는 남녀 모두 입기 좋은 넉넉한 실루엣으로, 새틴 셔츠의 과격한 그래픽과 충돌했다.

종교 문구를 타이포그래피와 그래픽으로 바꾼 벨트도 컬렉션 곳곳에 담겼다. 90년대식 트레이닝복과 짧게 재단한 상의는 고대 신관들이 입었을 법한 프린트 로브 ^robe와 어울린다. 어깨를 드러낸 큰 셔츠와 바닥을 스치는 멀티 패턴 드레스를 보면서 화려한 과장주의 ^maximalism가 떠올랐다. 청년 문화 ^{youth culture}, 뉴 레이브 ^{new rave}, 80년대 뉴욕 변두리 인디 록 씬 ^scene의 향수가 명상과 몽환의 이름 아래 숨어 있었다.

10년 전만 해도 촌스럽다고 했던 요소가 두셋씩 묶이니, 폐쇄적인 스튜디오에서 탄생한 룩이 아닌 거리 문화에 맞닿은 무대가 됐다. 차분한 정서를 지향하는 주제가 현실 세계의 ‘믹스 앤 매치’와 만나, 발 빠른 젊은이들이 열광하는 컬트 레이블의 면모를 갖춘 셈이다. 뉴욕에서 협업한 프로듀서 겸 DJ 매크로하드 ^Macrohard 의 배경 음악 또한, 스타일을 묘사하는 하나의 단어로 정의하기 어려운 컬렉션을 든든하게 뒷받침했다.

For S/S 2018, Kimmy. J created a syntagmatic world where artistic imaginations and scientific facts coexist. Kimmy. J brilliantly reinterpreted an uncharted red planet into a mysterious space for meditation. Designer Kim Heejin, whose earlier gothic and punk rock styles oozed some gloomy ambiences, has successfully made her brand evolve into a marvelous unisex label, especially after participating in New York Fashion Week. The wearable windbreakers with loose- silhouette was in stark contrast with radical graphic details. Equally eye-catching were the belts with religious phrase typographies and graphic patterns. The 90s-type tracksuits and short-cut tops dramatically mingled with printed robes akin to those of ancient priests. And the shoulder-revealing big shirts and long multi-patterned dresses wonderfully conjured up posh and exaggerating maximalist flashbacks.
